Hello All.
Welcome to Volume Two of my new series of MixTapes: The Demise Of The Mask. –(Volume One here)__.
Here you’ll hear the suite of songs that open what was one of the best albums of 2014, The Silver Globe by Jane Weaver; and something from real honky-tonk talent Margo Price and her 2016 debut record Midwest Farmer’s Daughter (recorded at Sun Studio in Memphis and released on Jack White‘s Third Man Records; here’s that pair performing together on “A Prairie Home Companion” back in October). You can groove as well to some of my favorite tunes by The Byrds, John Lennon, The Brian Jonestown Massacre, Danny Brown, Steve Harley & Cockney Rebel, and a whole lot more. Speaking of Cockney Rebel, there’s also a long prog workout by that group’s keyboardist Duncan Mackay, “12 Tone Nostalgia,” taken from his 1974 solo debut Chimera. Kevin Barnes‘ group of Montreal provide one of my favorite lyrics with their chorus of:
These amphibian days they will not heel to you
You can’t defy the defining flaw of your generation
Oh and for those who are left wondering just what words are used to create the hypnotic mantra in Moondog‘s 1971 round, “You The Vandal“:
you, the vandal, plunder the village as you will.
the earthworm will pillage you, the vandal, when you are under
