Hello All! Hello World!

Well hello there, who needs the Spoofity app when you’ve got another hour and 20 minutes of music from A Mouthful Of Pennies? So come   _Settle Down Amongst The Blossoms_ the latest A.M.O.P. Mixtape!

This one features two fantastic tunes by Dolly Parton (one covered by the incredible singer Bettye LaVette). I just read about Parton’s Imagination Library program, which has donated 100 million books to children over the last 23 years! So good on her! She sure is talented. You’ll also hear Erykah Badu, two from Karen Dalton’s 1971, Harvey Brooks produced LP In My Own Time, and one of my favorite Bono vocal performances from back in 1999-2000. Speaking of vocals there’s an amazing one by Tina Turner (alongside her then husband Ike) doing a rendition of the Beatles’ 1969 single, Get Back. On a personal side-note (and it’s my blog so the whole thing is sort of a personal side-note) Tina Turner is the first woman I can remember being really physically attracted to, when I saw her as The Acid Queen in Ken Russell’s 1975 film based upon The Who’s 1969 rock opera album Tommy.

I must have been about 8 years old. What that says about me and my arrow I just don’t know, but it might at least explain why Beyond Thunderdome has always been my favorite of the Mad Max films.

Oh and there’s what to me is a delightful work by the brilliant artist Dory Previn. Along the same lines of Carolyn Elliott praising Jesus Christ as a “queer witch,” which really sounds nice to me; Previn sings:

Jesus was a androgyne
Jesus was a he and she
Jesus was a freako baby
Just like you and me
Jesus was a pagan
Jesus was a priest
Jesus was a beauty
Jesus was a beast

Well, there’s all this and a whole lot more! So…
